Cistercian Order of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus & Mary
The Cistercian Order of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary is an Order and Province within the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church of Christ, adhering to the Catholic-Benedictine-Cistercian traditions. We are incorporated in the Communion of International Catholic Churches as a religious body set aside with Apostolic covering.
As Cistercians, we strive to find the face of God through following the Rule of St. Benedict. We grow as a Christian community through the monastic practices of obedience, stability, conversion, work and prayer. Our Catholic orientation places us within the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church of God, whose Head, Chief Pastor and High Priest is Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We hold as sacred the Holy Scriptures, the ancient creeds of the Church, the seven sacraments and governance through valid Episcopal orders. While we revere the Pope of Rome in his historic role as the first among equals and as Patriarch of the West, we also revere the Ecumenical Patriarch. As Province within the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church of Christ, we are self governing and have our own College of Abbots and Bishops. Our Prime Bishop/Abbott General is also a member of the Bishop’s Council of the Communion of International Catholic Churches. Following the example of both our progenitors and contemporaries we follow the commission of our Lord to “go forth and teach.” It is our hope that by being independent we might better open our arms to all, who are part of the Church catholic of Christ. We welcome and embrace our brothers and sisters in Christ, especially those from other Catholic bodies, whether they are Roman, Anglican, Orthodox, Independent or Old Catholic.
